Background

Spokane native Michael Kelley received a B.A. in Political Science and History from Carroll College in 1981, and his J.D. from Notre Dame in 1984.

Representative Work

Mike has practiced law in Portland for almost 30 years.  During his career he has represented clients ranging from individuals to Fortune 500 companies in matters ranging from antitrust to civil rights to products liability.  He has tried dozens of jury trials to a verdict and argued before the Oregon Court of Appeals and the Ninth Circuit, and in 2006 appeared before the United States Supreme Court.

Mike has three times been appointed to serve as a Special Assistant Attorney General, once for the State of Washington and twice for Oregon.  As part of the Washington assignment, he helped secure the State’s largest ever recovery for natural resource damages stemming from an oil spill that occurred just off the Washington coastline.  In connection with his work for the State of Oregon, he is currently litigating two antitrust cases against foreign manufactures of television and computer components (liquid crystal displays and cathode ray tubes).

Mike is one of two trial attorneys who litigated the largest antitrust verdict in the history of the Pacific Northwest (a $79 million verdict against Weyerhaeuser) in 2003. In 2004, Mike and his partner Mike Haglund secured two large antitrust settlements for the firm’s clients in Westwood v Weyerhaeuser and Coast Mountain v Weyerhaeuser, $34.5 million and $14 million respectively.
